Description
Maxton Pneumatic Preload Adjuster (PPA) – Race-Proven Precision Control
Eliminate compromise and take control of your suspension setup with the Maxton Pneumatic Preload Adjuster (PPA). Born on the racetrack where performance is everything, the PPA is the ultimate optional upgrade, engineered to replace traditional manual 'Tommy Bar' systems and failure-prone hydraulic adjusters. Available as an optional extra, it can be fitted to nearly all Maxton monoshocks.
Unlike hydraulic systems that can leak or lose pressure under extreme racing conditions—causing the rear suspension to soften mid-ride—the PPA relies on a rock-solid mechanical thread. Because there is no internal oil or constant fluid pressure, it is physically impossible for the system to fade or drop pressure.
How the Pneumatic Advantage Works
The PPA locks securely via a mechanical thread under normal spring tension. To adjust it, you simply introduce air pressure using a hand pump or gassing cylinder. The air balances the spring tension, freeing the thread and allowing you to effortlessly spin the knurled adjuster wheel by hand to add or remove preload. Once you release the air pressure, the immense spring tension instantly locks the mechanical threads back into place.
Born on the Track, Built to Win
Developed for elite race teams demanding absolute reliability, the PPA is a proven championship winner. It is trusted at the highest echelons of motorcycle racing, including the gruelling Isle of Man TT and the British Superbike Championship (BSB), where a single component failure can mean the difference between a podium finish and a DNF.
Key Features & Benefits
• Fail-Safe Mechanical Thread: Zero internal oil pressure means zero risk of pressure loss or damping fade during hard use or long races.
• Precision Adjustability: Laser-etched numbers around the adjuster allow for ultra-accurate tuning, letting you alter preload by as little as 0.25mm up to a maximum of 10.0mm.
• Effortless Hand Tuning: No awkward tools or struggling against spring force—adjust your preload quickly and easily using just your hand once air is applied.
• CNC 3D Machined Alloy: Expertly sculpted from high-grade 6082 alloy to keep weight to an absolute minimum while ensuring maximum structural strength.
• Anodised Protection: Hard-anodised coating prevents wear, scratches, and harsh environmental corrosion, guaranteeing long-term performance.
• 100% British Engineering: Proudly designed, developed, and manufactured completely in-house at Maxton's factory in Cheshire, UK.
Compatibility & Requirements
• Fitment: Can be specified as an optional extra on nearly all Maxton Monoshocks.
• Operation: Requires a standard shock hand pump or a gassing cylinder to temporarily pressurize the unit during adjustment. The gassing cylinder and hand pump are not included in the cost of the PPA.
